Two Palestinians were killed in central Gaza Strip on Thursday afternoon in renewed clashes between Hamas militants and security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas, Palestinian security sources said.
The fresh outbreak of violence underscored the fragility of the internal ceasefire deals reached between Hamas and the Abbas-led Fatah movement on Tuesday morning.
A spokesman of the Presidential Guards said the clashes erupted on Saladin Road near al-Nusairat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, killing one child and one Presidential Guards member. Medics said that 17 others from both sides were injured.
The spokesman accused Hamas militants of attacking trucks "carrying electric generators, tents and mobile toilets, which is a donation sent to the Palestinian security forces from United Arab Emirates."
But according to al-Aqsa radio, loyal to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Hamas militants have targeted trucks carrying weapons to pro-Abbas forces. A spokesman for the Auxiliary Forces also said his troops were targeting arms smugglers.
An Egyptian official in Gaza had earlier denied Hamas' allegation that weapons have been sent to Gaza Strip via Egypt to armed forces loyal to Abbas.
The previous five-day bloody bout of factional fighting, which started from last Thursday, had killed at least 33 Palestinians and wounded over 120 others.
