Short track speed skater Wang Meng from China expects a "new life" after the 6th Asian Winter Games, as the Turin winter Olympic champion had hinted fallout with coach during the Games.
"The competition had been completed and I can finally set my heart at rest," said the 21-year-old short track speed skating ace in her blog late Thursday night.
After being beaten to the third place by her South Korean opponents in the 1,500m event on Monday, Wang complaint that Chinese head coach Li Yan didn't set up any tactics for the race and said bluntly that she wants to train in the provincial team after the Games.
The remark immediately aroused suspicions that there might be conflicts between her and Li Yan. Then the media became even more interested in the stories behind the remarks than the two golds Wang clinched at the winter Asiad.
"I knew many people thought I shouldn't have made the remark, but I did not regret at all," said Wang, "I just realized that I shouldn't have brought it out during the Games."
In her personal blog, Wang said she was in low mood at that time."I just want to train hard and achieve good results in the competitions. When I fail to improve in training, I really feel depressed," added Wang.
At the same time, the 38-year-old head coach Li believed that the Chinese skaters had been working well together. "The South Korean skaters grabbed six golds in Turin while we only got one," Li illustrated, "Now the two teams clinched four titles each at the Asian Winter Games."
"That's what we have achieved," Li said. Li signed a four-year coaching contract with the Chinese skating team five months ago.
But Liu Xiaonong, official of the Chinese winter sports, admitted that there were conflicts between Li and the top skater Wang.
"We hadn't expected that Wang would made the remark openly at the Games. But we have to say that Wang could not see eye to eye with Li in the concepts of training," said Liu in a news conference held on Thursday.
Being regarded as the successor of twice Olympic champion Yang Yang, Wang believed she made many people disappointed as she threatened to leave the national team.
However, "I suffered a lot this year," said Wang, "I realized that skating should not be the only thing in my life. I want to have a new life."
