Three U.S. soldier die in two vehicle accidents in Iraq

Three U.S. soldiers died in two separate vehicle accidents on Thursday, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The military said in a statement that two soldiers, assigned to Multi-National Corps in Iraq, died at about 9:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) Thursday in a vehicle accident at Camp Liberty near Baghdad.

A third soldier died of wounds sustained when his vehicle rolled over on Thursday, the military said in a separate statement.

The brief statement did not specify the location of the incident, but said the soldier was assigned to Task Force Lightning, which is responsible for the north-central area of Iraq, including the cities of Balad, Kirkuk, Tikrit, Mosul and Samarra.

The statements did not mention the causes of these vehicle accidents either.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 3,085 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
