Hamas-led Palestinian government on Saturday condemned the decision of Middle East Quartet to keep on financial embargo against it.
"The Quartet's resolutions only help the Israeli occupation and contradict with basic standards of democracy," said Taher al- Nounou, spokesman for Palestinian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"The resolutions also contribute to besieging the Palestinian people and imposing collective punishment on the people who believed in democracy," he added.
After Quartet meeting in Washington on Friday, the four world powers, namely the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia, have renewed support for international sanctions against the Hamas-led government.
The sanctions were imposed after Hamas took office last March since the Islamic group rejected to recognize Israel, renounce violence and honor signed peace deals.
In spite of a letter sent by Palestinian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Zahar before the meeting asking the Quartet to lift the siege and open talks with the Hamas-led government, the Quartet still decided to ignore the Hamas government's requirements by keeping the siege.
