Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haneya will head a Hamas delegation to Mecca, Saudi Arabia where mainstream movements of Hamas and Fatah are to settle differences on forming a unity government, a spokesman said on Sunday.

Ghazi Hamad, spokesman for the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas)-led government, said Haneya will leave for Mecca in the coming two days upon an invitation by Saudi King Abdullah.

Haneya's departure depends on the opening of Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt which has been closed and controlled by Israel since last June after Palestinian militants kidnapped an Israeli soldier.

President Mahmoud Abbas will lead his Fatah delegation to attend Mecca meeting which would focus on discussing ways to form a coalition government and ending political crisis in the Palestinian territories.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman from Abbas' Ramallah office told reporters on Saturday that Abbas would meet with exiled Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal in Mecca on Tuesday.

According to Abu Rudeineh, the talks between Abbas and Mashaal "would focus on reinforcing the ceasefire agreement between Fatah and Hamas and the formation of a Palestinian national unity government."
