Death toll rises to 20 in Baghdad car bombings
font size

The death toll rose to 20 in two car bombs in the Iraqi capital on Monday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

Ten people were killed and 62 others injured in a car bomb blast near the Saidiyah fuel station in southwestern Baghdad at about 12:40 (0940 GMT), the source said on condition of anonymity.

The attack occurred near dozens of cars lining up outside the fuel station, the source said.

In central Baghdad, 10 people were killed and 20 others wounded when a parked car went off around midday in the Najafi parking lot in the Nahdha area, the source said.

Violence rages in Iraq despite the government's measures to crack down on illegal militia and the U.S. decision to send 21,000 more soldiers to the war-torn country.
