font size

A roadside bomb went off on Monday near a U.S. patrol in a neighborhood in Ramadi City, some 100 km west of Baghdad, killing and wounding all the soldiers aboard a Humvee, local residents said.

"A roadside bomb detonated at about 08:30 a.m. (0530 GMT), near a passing U.S. forces patrol in al-Khaldyia neighborhood, in eastern Ramadi, damaging a Humvee, killing and wounding all the soldiers aboard," the residents told Xinhua on condition of anonymity, without giving the exact number of the casualties.

However, the U.S. forces cordoned the incident area off immediately after the attack, evacuating the killed and wounded soldiers, and the destroyed Humvee, they added.

In a separate incident, three mortar rounds landed on the U.S. forces headquarters in al-Haklaniya City, in the volatile western Iraq province of Anbar, local residents said.

The U.S. military did not confirm the incidents.

An anonymous police source said that the Iraqi police patrols on Monday found six unidentified bodies, some of them tortured, in several parts of Haditha City, 180 km west of Baghdad.
