U.S. soldier killed in Iraq

An American soldier was killed Sunday during combat operations in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Monday.

The soldier died of wounds sustained during fight with insurgents Sunday in the restive province, the military statement said.

Since the U.S.-led war in Iraq broke out in March 2003, more than 3,089 U.S. soldiers have killed in Iraq, according to media count based on Pentagon confirmed figures.
