The United Nations' humanitarian bodies will send relief aid to flood victims in Jakarta and suburban areas in Indonesia, according to reports from Antara News Agency.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs ( OCHA) said that goods and emergency tools needed by Jakarta include food, clean water, clothes, blankets, medicines, and search and rescue (SAR) equipment.

Official of the UN's Emergency Relief Coordinator Margareta Wahsltrom said that the UN is currently monitoring the situation in the flood aftermath in the country.

The UN relief aid would involve the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), UNICEF, the World Food Program (WFP), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

By Tuesday, Australia has committed to provide thousands of emergency food parcels and hygiene kits valued at 150,000 Australian dollars (117,000 U.S. dollar), which is expected to distributed by the Indonesian Red Cross.

The U.S. embassy in Jakarta said it would give 100,000 dollars in emergency assistance through the Red Cross and other organizations to provide emergency supplies and items such as plastic sheets, cooking utensils and sleeping mats.

Several areas of Jakarta have been inundated following days of torrential rains which caused some of the rivers and canals burst their banks.

Information from the Jakarta Police on Tuesday morning said that the death toll in floods in Jakarta and environs climbed to 36.
