Two men injured in mail bomb blast in southern England
font size

Two men were slightly injured in a letter bomb explosion at a company in Wokingham in southern England on Tuesday morning, just a day after a letter bomb exploded in central London, the Sky News Television reported.

Thames Valley police said that they were called just after 9:00 am (0900 GMT) when an item of mail ignited at Vantis Plc in the Oaklands Business Centre. Sky sources said that the company deals with the enforcement of speeding fines.

Ambulance spokesman Graham Groves said "The paramedic teams treated two male members of staff, in their 30s, for blast injuries to their hands and upper body."

"However, their injuries were not considered serious and they did not need treatment in hospital," he said.

A Vantis spokesman later confirmed the incident, saying that there had been a small explosion at its Wokingham office at about 9:00 am and that two people had been slightly injured.

The firm's building was evacuated and cordoned off.

Police said they were aware of a similar incident in central London on Monday, but it was too soon to speculate on any possible connections.

A mail bomb exploded at the London headquarters of congestion charge firm Capita, leaving a female employee at the office in Victoria Street slightly injured. The Capita Group is a leading business outsourcing company.
