Hezbollah demanded the return of a truck carrying weapons seized by Lebanese authorities, saying the munitions were destined for its fighters, The Daily Star reported on Friday.
A few hours after the army stopped a truck loaded with munitions in east Beirut on Thursday, Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV announced that the truck belonged to the resistance group and was "carrying ammunition for the resistance from the Bekaa to fighters in the south," said the report.
In a statement following the announcement, Hezbollah said that the government's policy supported the right of resistance.
"The government program clearly confirms the right of resistance to continue its efforts to liberate the rest of the occupied land, the prisoners and to confront the Zionist threats," the statement said.
"Consequently, the concerned authorities must return the truck and the ammunition to the resistance," it said.
Hezbollah's demand followed an announcement by Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr that the army and the customs intercepted the truck in Hazmieh on its way from the eastern Bekaa Valley.
