The U.S. forces deployed 10 F-22A Raptors, the newest U.S. stealth fighters over the weekend at the Kadena Air Base in southern Japan's Okinawa prefecture, Kyodo News said.

Eight of the Raptors arrived at the base on Sunday, following the arrival of the first two on Saturday, the report said. The F- 22A Raptor, developed as the successor to the F-15 fighter, is capable of supersonic flight and air-to-land attacks.

Two more Raptors, now landed on Wake Island in the Pacific Ocean due to technical problem, and due to be deployed at the base later in the week. The fighters are reportedly to be on temporary deployment for three or four months.

Lt. Col. Wade Tolliver said that the fighters are slated to take part in joint drills with the U.S. Air Force at the Misawa base in northern Japan's Aomori prefecture and with the U.S. Navy around waters near Okinawa, according to Kyodo.
