Strong earthquake hits eastern Turkey

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted eastern Turkey at 13: 05 local time (11:05 GMT) on Wednesday, local NTV reported.

Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory & Seismology Institute was quoted as saying that the earthquake was centered in Sivrice town of Elazig province.

The quake was also felt in adjacent areas, said the report.

According to local authorities, there were no casualties.
