Exiled politburo chief of Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Khaled Meshaal said on Thursday that Mecca agreement would succeed in case of lifting the blockade imposed on the Palestinians as there was no other option, the official news agency MENA reported.
Meshaal, who has been in exile in Syria, made the remarks when he spoke to reporters following his talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit on the latest arrangements for the post- Mecca agreement stage.
Despite the U.S. rejection to have this blockade lifted, the Palestinian official made it clear that there is an international will to support the lifting of the siege.
Terming his talks with Abul Gheit as "frank and transparent", Meshaal said that the two tackled the post-Mecca Declaration situation and Egypt's efforts in reaching this accord, adding that the Palestinian side is very keen on maintaining coordination with Egypt.
On Feb. 8, Hamas and Fatah agreed in Saudi Arabia's holy city of Mecca on number of portfolios they would obtain in the future national unity government. In the meantime, Prime Minister Ismail Haneya of Hamas was designated to form the new Palestinian government.
