Visiting U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney said that nuclear and biological attacks which may be launched by terrorists pose the biggest threat to his country, local media reported Saturday.
In an interview with the Weekend Australian newspaper, Cheney said: "The thing that we have to concern ourselves with these days is that the next group of terrorists that find their way into an American city might have a nuclear weapon or a biological agent to unleash."
Defending certain controversial U.S. actions in the "war on terror," Cheney argued that leaders in Washington have to "do everything" they can to guard against that and may need to "step on a few toes in the process."
During the interview published Saturday, the vice president also defended the military campaign in Iraq, saying that the Iraqi people were "well on the road to establishing a viable democracy."
Cheney, during a two-day visit to Australia, met with Prime Minister John Howard on Friday.
