Bomb planted under car explodes in southern Iraq, wounding six

A bomb planted under a civilian car Friday detonated near southern Iraqi city of Hilla, some 110 km south of Baghdad, wounding six people, a local police source said.

"A bomb planted under a civilian car in al-Mahaweel district, 15 km north of Hilla, detonated at about 8:00 p.m. (1700 GMT), wounding six civilians," the source said on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, U.S. army and Iraqi forces jointly raided al-Musyiab town, 35 km north of Hilla, detaining five suspects, the source added.

The raid came after the Iraqi police salvaged an unidentified body from the Euphrates River near al-Musyiab town on Friday morning.

The almost daily gruesome body findings and waves of explosions across Iraq were seen as a major setback for the government's efforts to quell violence and achieve national reconciliation.
