France again says use of force not an option on Iran
font size

France believes the use of force to solve the Iranian nuclear issue is "unimaginable and unacceptable," French foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

Repeating France's stance that the use of force against Iran is not an option, French Foreign Ministry's spokesman Jean-Baptiste Mattei said at a regular press conference that the international communities' efforts to solve the issue should be within the frame of Chapter 7, Article 41 of the U.N. Charter, which does not mention of the use of force.

The disagreement over Iran's nuclear program is moving towards a "political and diplomatic solution" and the use of force is "unimaginable and unacceptable," he said.

Mattei said the six-nation meeting in London was "constructive" in its effort of working out a new U.N. Security Council resolution to press Iran to halt its nuclear program, although the negotiations were still on the way.

France hoped negotiations would be finished soon so that further measures can be taken to stop Iran from pursuing uranium enrichment activities, Mattei said.
