Seven killed in suicide bombing attack in northern Iraq

A suicide car bomb struck a police station in Iraq's northern city of Mosul on Tuesday, killing seven people and wounding 28 others, local police said.

"A suicide bomber drove an explosive laden vehicle into a police station in western Mosul, killing seven people, most of them were policemen," Yasir Hammad, an officer from the city police told Xinhua by telephone.

The blast also wounded 28 people, including policemen along with destroying parts of the police station's building, he said.

Earlier, another suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself at the checkpoint of the Mosul Company specialized in manufacturing cement barriers for the Iraqi security forces in the town of Baaj, about 140 km west of Mosul City, the town's police chief Colonel Merie Hassan told Xinhua by telephone.

The attack resulted in the killing of four workers and wounding four others, Hassan said.

Dozens of the company workers were lining up at the checkpoint in the morning for normal security checking when the attack occurred, he added.
