Australian military leaders expressed on Wednesday their understanding of China's military buildup.
During consultations with their Chinese counterparts in Canberra, Deputy Secretary of the Australian Department of Defense Mike Pezzullo and Chief Capability Development Executive of the Department David Hurley also praised China's role in international affairs.
They reiterated the Australian government's adherence to the one-China policy.
They exchanged in-depth views with the Chinese delegation, led by Deputy Chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army Xu Qiliang, on issues including international and regional security, defense policy, bilateral relations and military build- up.
Both sides agreed that the mechanism of consultations on defense matters have served to enhance mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.
The one-day security and strategic consultation is the 10th of the kind since the annual event started in 1997.
