The United States said Friday that the new resolution on Iran is making progress and the proposed resolution will be incremental to bring more pressure on Iran's nuclear program.
"In terms of the elements of the resolution, we'll let that unfold over the next few days here. I would expect that, as we said, it's going to be an incremental step in the diplomacy that's proportionate to the kind of response that Iran has given the rest of the world," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.
"And it will be proportionate to the response that the Iranians have given the international community to this point," McCormack said.
Six countries, or the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany, are now engaging in talks in Berlin to discuss the draft resolution on Iran.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution on Dec. 23 and urged Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program within 60 days. However, Iran has failed to comply with this demand.
The United States has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of civilian nuclear programs. Iran has denied the charges.
