Cricket tournament opens in Thailand

The first Inter-Regional Cup of tournament organized by the Cricket Association of Thailand opened on Saturday morning as cricketers from all parts of Thailand will take part in the three day competitions.

The Asian Cricket Council has backed the competition. All the players have been trained by specialist coaches and will pit their talents against each other in a bid to finally create a fully fledged Thai team for future international competitions, Thai newspaper the Bangkok Post said.

Cricket, which is a popular game in central Asia, has already spread to Thailand recently, especially in provinces of Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Chon Buri, Phetchabun and Phuket, with teachers of schools, especially from the St. Stephen's International School group, supporting the growth of the sport.
