The abuse of force has brought about unprecedented challenges to security in the Middle East, said Abdul Rahman Al-Attiya, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday.

Al-Attiya made the remarks at a three-day seminar on security in the region.

He criticized Washington's handling of Middle East issues, saying their double standard had complicated the region's security.

He also lashed out at Israel, saying its use of violence and policy of segregation meant the Palestine issue had not been settled and had consequently shaken the region's security.

Established in 1981 and headquartered in Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh, the GCC groups the UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
