China's oldest handwritten copy of the Koran restored

The Qinghai Administration of Cultural Heritage has said that China's oldest handwritten copy of the Koran, preserved at the Jiezi mosque in Xunhua Salar Autonomous County of Qinghai province, has been restored successfully by experts from Nanjing Museum.

Salar nationality is one of the smallest minorities. It is believed that more than 700 yeas ago, the ancestors of the Salar nationality, having had enough of faction conflict, migrated east from Central Asia, finally settling in Jiezi village in Xunhua. This copy of the Koran was carried by the pilgrims from their homeland. It has always been regarded as a historical treasure, handed down from ancient generations of the Salar nationality. It is also one of the oldest handwritten copies of the Koran preserved intact.
