Vietnam, Japan agree to bolster defense cooperation

The People's Army of Vietnam and the Ground Self Defense Force of Japan agreed Tuesday to strengthen their cooperation, which would help promote friendly relations between the two countries, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

During a meeting between a visiting delegation from the Ground Self Defense Force led by the force's chief of staff Gen. Tsutomi Mori and Vietnamese officials from the General Staff of the People's Army, the two sides agreed that they should beef up cooperation on such fields as delegation exchange, salvage, rescue, and information technology training.

Also on Tuesday, the Japanese delegation paid a courtesy call to Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh.
