Israeli government agency on Wednesday warned its citizens not to travel in Egypt, especially the Sinai peninsula.
The warning, issued by the Counter-Terrorism Division of Israel's National Security Council, listed about 30 countries and areas that could pose different levels of threat to Israeli travelers.
All of Egypt, especially the Sinai peninsula, is labeled as posing the highest level of threat to Israeli travelers. The warning advised Israeli citizens to avoid visiting or leave immediately.
Besides Egypt, Sudan, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iran are also classified as the most dangerous destination for Israeli travelers.
Sinai peninsula, bordering southern Israel, has been repeatedly targeted by terrorists in recent years.
In October, 2004, suicide bombers blew up a hotel in Taba, which is located in Sinai bordering Israel, killing 34 people, including 11 Israelis.
In July, 2005, the famous Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el- Sheikh was rocked by suicide bombings, which left 64 people dead.
In April, 2006, The Sinai Egyptian resort of Dahab was attacked by suicide bombings, 18 people were killed and dozens injured.
Israel has issued several travel warnings for Sinai in the past, but the area remains a favorite vacation spot for Israeli holidaymakers.
