The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Morocco will hold joint military exercises between their navies in Morocco's Casablanca port, the Moroccan News Agency reported Thursday.
The exercises, which will be held until Sunday, include tasks of rescue at sea, medical aid, commercial ship control and joint communication, the agency said.
The NATO fleet, which arrived at the port on Wednesday, consisted of four missile frigates from NATO member countries of Germany, Turkey, Greece and Italy, it reported.
The frigates were the subgroup of NATO SNMG2, the most important part of NATO rapid reaction forces and made up of marine, land and air forces.
The joint military exercises fall within the framework of the Mediterranean Dialogue, the agency added.
Launched in 1994, the Mediterranean Dialogue has the objective of reinforcing practical cooperation in security and defense as well as intelligence sharing, emergency response and sciences.
This mechanism currently brings together NATO member countries and seven countries situated within the Mediterranean region, namely Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia and Algeria.
