Two annual sessions of China's top legislature and top advisory body, namely, the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), have become increasingly open to the outside world in recent years. To a large number of reporters from overseas, they resemble more like an "international convention" this year, as the work report of the NPC has been interpreted in English for the first time, residences of the delegations of NPC deputies have been made known for the first time, and foreign reporters are also given direct access to deputies whom they would like to contact, and the English editions of major vital draft laws have also been available for the first time.
The openness of the two annual sessions is attributed, first of all, to global attention being shown toward China. With its merging into the international community economically, politically and in diplomatic and other spheres, a variety of global interests are related closely to that of China. A number of Chinese laws and relevant policies will have an impact on the decision-making of transnational corporations and global economic or political entities. The annual sessions will undoubtedly represent one of the best showcases for the world to get to know China timely and most comprehensively.
In the meanwhile, the two annual sessions also manifest China's high sense of accountability for the entire world. Many draft laws and policies, being mulled over or discussed at the sessions, have not only taken into account the country's own specific national conditions but drawn on experience from overseas. In the present information age, China, a developing nation right on the road of peaceful development, has to present or portray its image accurately with the means of mature public diplomacy.
The very reason why China has increasingly won the growing respect globally is precisely its adherence to the road of peaceful development. The core or quintessence of its peaceful development is to seek an environment of peace to develop itself and proceed to use its development to spur world peace, and the country's development and global peace complement each other. So the two annual sessions, now smoothly progressing, are convened not only for the people of China alone, but constitutes a grand political gathering to seek both harmony and happiness for the people across the world.
