Syrian Defense Minister Hasan Turkmani on Saturday reviewed with his visiting Iranian counterpart Mostafa Mohammad Najjar cooperation between the two armies, the official SANA news agency reported.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments in the region and means of developing the friendly relations between the two countries, the report said, without giving further details.
A source close to the Iranian delegation, who asked not to be named, told the press that the two ministers expressed in their meeting the willingness to increase military cooperation, reach new agreements and implement previously signed ones.
Syria and Iran, both accused by the U.S. of supporting terrorism, have remained close ties since 1980s when Damascus sided with Tehran during the 8-year Iran-Iraq war.
Najjar, leading a senior military delegation, arrived in Damascus Friday evening on an official visit to Syria.
