Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim and U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab stressed on Saturday the urgency of pushing for the breakthrough of the Doha Round, considering the relative sides' weariness of the trade talks.
They made such remarks while meeting in Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city. Brazil and the United States believe that the Doha Round should be concluded as soon as possible in order to avoid any unexpected problems, according to Amorim.
The stalled Doha Round talks could make important progress before the end of April, Amorim added.
The United States would make bilateral dialogue with the related countries to coordinate the differences of interests, and seize all the opportunities to push forward the progress of the Doha Round talks, according to Schwab.
The Doha Round was launched in 2001, with the aim of alleviating poverty through fairer trade conditions. But the negotiations stalled in July 2006 due to sharp differences among major WTO members on agricultural trade and industrial market access.
