Saudi police find vehicle used in shooting of French tourists
font size

The vehicle used by gunmen who killed four French tourists in Saudi Arabia last month has been found, an Interior Ministry spokesman said Monday.

Mansour al-Turki confirmed it was the vehicle used in the February 26 attack on a group of nine French tourists, allegedly lost in a desert area some 90 km from the holy city of Medina -- an area restricted to Muslims.

Al-Turki said authorities were still searching for two Saudi nationals believed to be linked to the attack.

The Saudi government on March 6 announced the arrest of several suspects without disclosing their identities. In addition, two Saudi nationals were summoned to turn themselves in within 24 hours or be declared wanted.

Al-Turki had said the car used in the attack was an olive-green Nissan.

Authorities initially said a terrorist group was behind the fatal shooting, which prompted diplomats and officials to warn foreigners that more attacks were possible.
