Argentina has been chosen to host the 2010 women's field hockey World Cup, the executive committee of the sport's international federation, which must ratify its decision in September, said on Thursday.

The country has until then to present its plans for the competition and make sure they meet the technical and operating requirements. The nation last organized a hockey world cup in 1981, in the Argentine Polo Club, in Buenos Aires.

To definitively win the honor, Argentina must provide a 15,000-seater stadium, with mobile grandstands, a second field in the same complex and room to park at least 1,500 cars.

This work will need between 1 million and 1.2 million U.S. dollars.

The possibilities include Rosario's Jockey Club, where the 2004 Champions Trophy was played, and the Quilmes National Stadium, which hosted the 2007 Champions Trophy.

Argentina's women's hockey team were world champions at the 2002 World Cup in Perth, Australia.
