font size

The incidence of diabetes increases rapidly when a country's average GDP ranges from US$700 to US$1000. In this period, people are able to dress warmly and eat their fill, causing many people to gain weight rapidly, one of the major causes of diabetes. China is currently in this period and the incidence of diabetes in the total population is approximately five percent.

China has the second highest number of diabetes sufferers in the world, behind India. This data was released by the Diabetes Association of the Chinese Medical Association at the 6th Novo Nordisk Diabetes Forum.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), by 2025, the number of diabetics worldwide is expected to reach 300 million, 230 million of who will live in developing countries.
