Indonesia-Iran ties not affected by UN sanction: VP
font size

Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla said Tuesday bilateral relations with Iran are not affected by Indonesia's support to UN Security Council's sanction against Iran.

He also said that both countries would go ahead with a memorandum of understanding, which was already signed, covering a wide range of cooperation agreements.

"We go ahead with the Iranian-Indonesian MOU. It is not affected by the issue," Kalla was quoted by the semi-official Antara news agency as saying at the Halim Perdana Kusuma airport here, just before leaving for Saudi Arabia for talks on Iran.

In a move intended to send a strong message to Tehran, the UN Security Council has issued Resolution No. 1707, imposing new sanctions against Iran for its refusal to stop enriching uranium.

The resolution was passed 15-0 in a recent voting. Indonesia is now the rotating member of the UNSC.
