Construction of Qinghai-Tibet Railway logistics center begins

The logistics center for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in Naqu, a strategically important town in the north of Tibet, has officially begun operating.

Since the Qinghai-Tibet Railway opened on July 1 last year, there has been much progress in socio-economic development in Qinghai and Tibet. To ensure that the huge development potential of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is reached, China decided to build an advanced, modern logistics center in Naqu. The building of the logistics center is an important strategic decision aimed at promoting the social and economic development of Tibet.

Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun said at the work meeting that Naqu Logistics Center will be designed and built at one time. The center will cover 8000 mu and cost 1.5 billion yuan. According to the plan, the basic design will be completed in May 2007, construction will start in July and the center will be completed and fully functional by October.
