A construction site at South Haidian Street, Beijing, the southeastern entry of Suzhoujie Station on the No. 10 subway line, caved in on Wednesday, burying six workers. Rescue efforts were ongoing at 8.30p.m. Wednesday night.
A primary investigation shows that the collapsed site is roughly 20 square meters in area and 11 meters deep. The six buried workers are from the 12th Bureau of China Railway, the unit in charge of the project.
Party and government leaders in Beijing have turned their full attention to the accident, and ordered an immediate rescue.
Authorities responded quickly by organizing an on-the-spot command post and rescue team, and experts and equipment were rapidly put in place.
Traffic controls were in effect to ensure the safety of people and buildings.
