Poland plans to hold negotiations on U.S. anti-missile shield
font size

Polish Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski said in Warsaw on Thursday that Poland would hold talks and had a plan of negotiations on the installation of the U.S. anti- missile shield.

Kaczynski told reporters that negotiations were "likely to start soon."

"We will hold talks, we have a plan of negotiations," J. Kaczynski declared and added that "negotiation instruction was almost ready." He said that the National Security Council (RBN) should hold a meeting on the issue.

He stressed that the government wanted "a moment of dialogue with the public opinion" and added that a brochure on the shield was being prepared so that the public opinion was better informed about the project.

The RBN, an advisory institution for Polish president, discussed the U.S. proposal to install parts of the anti-missile shield last Tuesday. After its next meeting the Council is expected to formulate an opinion on the project, PAP news agency reported.

The U.S. government in January made a formal offer to the Czech Republic and Poland to open talks on the shield. Under the proposal ,Poland could be the base for underground rocket silos and the Czech Republic would host the radar system.
