font size

A U.S. soldier was killed and another wounded in a roadside bomb attack in southern Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.

The attack took place on Thursday while a Multinational Division - Baghdad unit was conducting a combat security patrol as part of U.S.-Iraqi security crackdown aimed at curbing insurgency and sectarian violence in the capital, the military said in a statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

About 3,245 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
