The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has asked all political parties willing to participate in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, to register from this Saturday to April 27, local leading media group's website eKantipur reported Friday.
At a press conference organized at the commission's office Friday afternoon, Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel said registration for the coming CA elections would begin on Saturday (March 31) and end on April 27.
All parties wishing to contest the elections will have to apply for registration within the stated time with at least 10,000 signatures, Pokhrel said.
The verification of the signatures submitted with the parties' registration applications will be completed within a week of the closing of the registration process, according to Pokhrel.
According to the agreements reached by the Seven-party Alliance and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), the Constituent Assembly was to be held in mid-June. The first meeting of the assembly will decide whether to keep the monarchy or not.
