5th Chinese education exhibition kicks off in Nepal

The Fifth China Education Exhibition kicked off here on Friday in a bid to provide information for the Nepalese students who are willing to study in China.

As many as 21 universities from various parts of China, including Peking University, Fudan University and Zhejiang University are participating in the two-day event.

The exhibition is jointly organized by the China Scholarship Council under the Chinese Education Ministry, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and the Araniko Society, a Sino-Nepal friendship organization.

According to Chairman of the Araniko Society Harish Chandra Shaha, the major objective of the exhibition is to provide first- hand knowledge and information to prospective Nepalese students and families about the Chinese education system, individual universities and courses they offer.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Nepali Minister for Education and Sports Mangal Sidhi Manandhar said, "Nepal and China maintain friendly relationships in various fields, which can be further strengthened through this exhibition."

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary General of China Scholarship Council Wu Liansheng said the Chinese government encourages Chinese students to go abroad for studying in foreign countries, and also welcomes foreign country students coming to China for study.

Statistics from the China Scholarship Council showed that as many as 7,884 Nepalese students are currently studying different subjects, such as medicine, engineering, tourism and business administration in 87 universities in China.

The Chinese government has been providing scholarships to Nepali students in the above-mentioned subjects.
