Tribesmen kill 11 foreign militants in Pakistani tribal region

Local tribesmen in Pakistan's South Waziristan stormed a bunker manned by foreign militants early Wednesday, killed 11 aliens and captured another 14, a local TV channel reported.

There have been massive sounds of rockets and gunfire since Wednesday morning in Shen Warsik area of Wana, a major town in South Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan, according to the private Geo Television.

Reports said that the tribal commanders in South Waziristan, where has seen escalating skirmishes between the local tribesmen and foreign militants since early March, are calling for a determined offensive to expel the aliens from the area.

It is believed that many foreign militants with Taliban and al- Qaida connections have sneaked into northwest Pakistani tribal areas to seek shelter after the Afghan Taliban regime was overturned in 2001.

Since joining the Washington-led international war on terror after the Sept. 11 attack on the United States, Pakistani government has since sent about 80,000 troops to the tribal region bordering Afghanistan to hunt foreign militants and curb illegal cross-border movement of fighters.
