OSCE urges Ukraine to seek quick solution to political crisisThe Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has urged all parties in Ukraine to seek a quick solution to the nation's current political crisis, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said Wednesday. "I trust that all parties will act in a spirit of constructive cooperation so that the nation can continue in the direction of consolidating democracy," Moratinos, who began an ice-breaking visit to Cuba on Monday, said in a statement. Moratinos, whose country holds the rotating OSCE presidency, said he was paying great attention to the situation in Ukraine. "All political forces must continue using dialogue to resolve this crisis," he added. Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko signed a decree late Monday to dissolve the country's parliament and called early parliamentary elections on May 27. But the parliament appealed overnight for a ruling by the constitutional court on the legitimacy of the president's order. Moratinos is the most senior European Union (EU) government official to visit Havana since 2003, in an attempt to mend a rift over human rights issues between Cuba and the EU. Source: Xinhua |
