Special Envoy of the Chinese government and Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun visited the western Sudanese region of Darfur Saturday and held talks with local officials.

Respectively in al-Fashir and Nyala, the Chinese envoy held meetings with Governor of North Darfur Osman Mohammed Yousef Kibir and Governor of South Darfur al-Haj Ata al-Manan, listened to introductions of the situation in the region, inspected three refugee camps and had dialogues with representatives of local residents and refugees.

Zhai Jun expressed his government's appreciation for the positive efforts exerted by the Sudanese government, the African Union and the United Nations for maintaining the stability and pushing the political process of solving the Darfur problem forward.

He said that the Chinese government was deeply concerned with the Darfur issue and had provided several batches of humanitarian assistance materials to the region.

Cooperating with the international society, he said, the Chinese side would continuously play a constructive role for promoting a political solution for the Darfur problem and realizing the peace, stability and development in Darfur as soon as possible.

Zhai Jun and his delegation arrived in Khartoum on Friday on a four-day official visit in Sudan.

On Sunday, the Chinese envoy held a meeting with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Kerti.
