Second son of Bangladeshi immediate past PM arrested

Bangladesh's immediate past Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's second son Arafat Rahman was arrested by joint forces of Bangladesh early hours of Monday, private television channel ATN Bangla said.

But the television did not mention about on what charges Arafat Rahman, who used to maintain relatively low profile in the business circle life, was arrested and where he has been taken as the joint forces and intelligence were tight lipped.

A couple of hours before Arafat was arrested, top officials of the joint forces reportedly had gone to Khaleda's Dhaka Cantonment residence and had a lengthy talks with Khaleda Zia during which the officials advised her to leave the country, but Khaleda rejected their proposals, The Daily Star reported on Monday.

Arafat's advertising firm, Advance AD, allegedly wiped its opponents out of the market, thanks to his family influence. It has been in control of the most lucrative advertisements spots in the city during the last five years.

Khaleda's elder son Tarique Rahman, who exercised maximum power from behind the scene and allegedly did widespread corruption and kept money in foreign countries, was arrested on March 8 on charges of corruption.
