French President Jacques Chirac on Monday sent his condolence to the United States, following the campus shootings happened in Virginia Tech, leaving at least 32 people dead.

"The president of the Republic has known with horror and consternation the shootings of Virginia University," according to a statement issued by the presidential office.

"He sent to President Bush, to the families of the victims and to American people his most saddened condolence and his complete solidarity, in the name of himself and French people," the statement said.

A gunman opened fire during a two-hour span in a dormitory and a classroom at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, in southwestern Virginia, eastern U.S., leaving at least 32 people including the suspect gunman dead and more than dozen others wounded on Monday, media reports said.

This incident was believed to be the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history.
