The bombs used in the terrorist attacks which occurred last Wednesday were probably not exploded by the terrorists who were driving the two vehicles, but by other persons using a remote control, Algerian interior and local government minister Noureddine Zerhouni was quoted as saying by the Algerian daily "Liberte" on Tuesday.
"In one of the vehicles used by the three terrorists, at least a system for firing from a distance commonly known as remote control was discovered by police detectives working on the case," Zerhouni said.
"With this new development, the most probable hypothesis is that these two bombs were not exploded by the terrorists who were driving the two vehicles, but by other persons who were far away from the sites of the bombings at time of the explosions," the minister said.
However, the minister underlined that in these kinds of situations, "as long as investigations are still on the preliminary stages, there can only be hypothesis and that only judges were well placed ascertain what exactly happened."
Two terrorist attacks, one of which was targeted at the office of the prime minister, occurred last Wednesday in Algiers leaving 30 people dead and more than 220 others injured, according to the latest official figures.
