Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday the United States is considering holding a ten-party summit on Mideast peace, local daily Ha'aretz reported on its website.
The United States is weighing a meeting of the "ten", which includes the Quartet (the United States, the European Union, Russia and the UN), Israel, the Palestinian National Authority, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, Olmert was quoted as saying.
Among the ten parties, Saudi Arabia does not have official relations with Israel.
Olmert told a meeting of Knesset, or parliament's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that following a meeting of the Arab League foreign ministers Wednesday in Cairo, a delegation from the organization may visit Israel.
He also referred to a list of prisoners presented by the Palestinians for a potential prisoners swap in exchange for the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, describing the list as a " disappointing" one.
The Israeli premier also responded to Syrian Information Minister Muhsen Bilal's recent remarks that if Israel rejects the Arab League peace proposal, resistance will be the only way for Syria to liberate the Israel-occupied Golan Heights, another Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported on its website.
Israel has no intention to attack Syria, Olmert was quoted as saying, adding while Syria believes Israel plans to strike it, the Israel Defense Forces is also preparing for the scenario of a Syrian onslaught against it.
