Arab League chief condemns Wednesday's bombing in Iraq
font size

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa on Thursday strongly condemned Wednesday's bombing in Baghdad, which killed some 140 Iraqis, Egypt's news agency MENA reported.

In a press statement, Moussa expressed concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Iraq, warning of underestimating actions aimed at fomenting sedition among the Iraqis.

He said the situation in Iraq should not be addressed from an exclusively security perspective and a political framework was needed to help establish a new unified Iraq free of violence and sectarianism.

Moussa said it was also important to rally regional and international efforts to ensure the successful holding of international conference on Iraq, to be held in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on May 3-4.

Up to 140 people were killed and approximately 150 others wounded in Wednesday's deadliest attack of explosive-laden truck in a commercial street in central Baghdad.
