font size

According to official figures released by the Ministry of Information Industry for January and February, China's exports of electronic information products are 11.5 percentage points lower during the same period of last year.

China's exports of electronic information products accounted for more than one third of total exports. Mobile phones, printers, electronic components and semiconductor integrated circuits are some the main products exported. However, in the first two months of this year, exports of electronic products were valued at 60.25 billion yuan, an increase of 32.5%, but 9 percentage points lower than overall exports.

In January and February, exports of foreign-owned enterprises were valued at US$40.65 billion, accounting for 67% of total exports, up 33% from the same period of last year. Joint venture exports were valued at US$10.12 billion, accounting for 17% of total exports. Exports of solely Chinese companies made up less than 20% of exports.

In terms of segments of export trade, the processing trade using imported material and the processing trade using supply materials are still the mainstays of export trade. Exports of these two trade segments were valued at US$41.4 billion and US$9.9 billion, accounting for 83% of total exports.

Data shows that imports of electronic products increased over the same period of last year (January through February), but the rate of increment dropped. Cumulative imports were valued at US$47.4 billion, up 22% on the same period of last year, but the growth rate was 20% lower than the previous year.

In 2006, exports of electronic information products increased by more than 30%, accounting for 36% of total exports, and are the pillar of the export industry.
