The second round of Pakistan and Afghanistan jirga commissions' meeting, previously scheduled for April 8, will be held in Afghan capital city Kabul on May 3, said a Pakistani official Monday.
The meeting was delayed due to "certain" reasons, which however were not specified, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan quoted Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao as saying.
The first round was held in Pakistani capital Islamabad on March 12-13, during which both sides discussed modalities and the timeframe for organizing peace jirgas in the border areas.
Pakistan and Afghanistan had reaffirmed their resolve to hold jirgas or councils of tribal elders to contain terrorism-related violence in the tribal areas straddling their borders.
These discussions on jirgas are a follow-up to an agreement reached between Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai during a meeting at the White House hosted by U.S. President George W. Bush in September 2006.
Authorities in both countries had agreed to hold jirgas on both sides of the Pakistani-Afghan border to eliminate insurgency in the tribal areas along the border and curtail illegal cross-border movements.
