Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced that Microsoft will expand its research and development (R&D) bases in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and will invest in new research and development parks in Beijing and Shanghai. Mr. Gates said that once the new parks are built, they will not only satisfy Microsoft's R&D demands in China, but also support Microsoft in innovation, cooperation and collective interests with clients and industry partners.
During his China visit, Bill Gates attended several events including the Government Leader's Forum: Asia and the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).
"Innovation and cooperation is the cornerstone of Microsoft's growth," said Mr Gates. "China is one of the most energetic and the fastest developing economy. The new research and development investment measures will help Microsoft, the Chinese government and our industry partners train innovative personnel and build a flourishing, innovative system."
Since Microsoft established its first China office in 1992, Microsoft has been dedicated to long-term research and development in China. In January 2006, to further enhance the course of innovation, research and development in China, Microsoft established the China R&D Group, a milestone in its development in China.
